Do You Need to Invest in Blogs for Your E-commerce Store?

Our general practice for a topic includes keyword research, people's queries on Quora, topic generation through HubSpot Blog Ideas Generator or Answer the Public. Not this time though.

The credit for this topic goes to a prospect interested in an SEO-friendly e-commerce website design & development project. The question cropped up when we ran over the pages on the website and came to the blog page.

Our client had told us his brand will have clothes, accessories, and home items. His refusal to omit the blog page became clear. He had researched all the top e-commerce stores, i.e. Amazon, eBay, and Walmart that sell consumer goods and seemingly don't have a blog page on their website.

We took him to the site navigation and showed him the Blog section on Amazon to convey our point and win him over. Blogs, articles, guest posts, and landing pages are all part of the big picture--getting your website ranked on the first page of Google.

Best Practices to Create Awesome Blogs

Now incorporate what the top digital marketers do and generate organic traffic instead of relying solely on paid marketing:

 Capture Attention with Catchy Headlines

The headline of our blog is to the point as it asks a question. Those who need the answer to that question will be pulled to it instantly.

The second way is to add a touch of suspense like these real examples from Google images searched for headlines:

British Public Wrong about nearly everything, survey shows

USE IT...OR LOSE IT

Both the above headlines hook you with a startling statement yet keep the aura of mystery ensuring you click on the title to find the rest of the story.

Now transmute them for blog titles for different industries:

Grocer: Shocking Facts about Blue Cheese You Can Use in Cooking

Fashion: Upgrade Your Wardrobe & Flaunt Yourself for Under $50

Hospitality: Unbelievably Serene Vacation Spots in the USA

Remember to deliver on your promise because nothing turns off readers more than clickbait.

Target Detailed Blogs

Short blogs such as this one are good for giving a quick overview of the topic at hand. There are very strong reasons for long-form blogs anything crossing 2000 words:

  • Provide a complete in-depth analysis ensuring the reader doesn't have to look anywhere else for information.
  • From an SEO perspective, you can easily add headings 1 and 2 while using both short and long-tail keywords for better search results.
  • You raise your chances of getting featured in Snippets as your content answers all the major pain points of the reader.
  • It establishes your prestige because long-form content meets Google's requirements of E-A-T: experience, authority and trust.

For example, you are an engineer with five years of experience in the solar industry. You'll have credentials enabling you to share your knowledge with authority. Plus, you will have peers and stakeholders from the same field that vouch for your credibility through their reviews on your website and social profiles making you a trustworthy source.

Incorporate Internal Links to Your Other Blogs

People read blogs and other online material to find information and fix issues. By predicting the problems of your readers, you can easily add a link to your other blogs so even maybe if they don't read it right then and there, they will know they can come back later and check it out.

In the hospitality example above-Unbelievably Serene Vacation Spots in the USA, you can easily add links to two more blogs titles such as Budget-Friendly Hotels For Couples and Top Things to Do on a Remote Getaway.

Internal links also help to supplement your short blogs. All you need to do is add related links to ensure the reader can expand on that information in case he desires detailed information.

For example, You had only covered five vacation spots in the above topic, you could easily attach a link in between or at the end by incorporating a sentence such as, “don't forget to check out the Top Favorite Celebrity Vacation Destinations in the US.”

 Add Two Social Media Buttons

Research shows people like simple choices so give them two or a maximum of three social buttons for sharing the blog. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are the top places your readers may share your blog so make sure the sharing buttons are clearly visible.

Generating blogs can be painstaking especially if you are juggling different job roles in your business but if you can be at it consistently using the best practices, it can translate to revenue and growth by bringing you a steady stream of visitors without increasing your ad spend.
